Stratton Mountain Ski Resort Review


Stratton Mountain Ski Resort is located on the highest peak in southern Vermont, in the heart of the infamous snowbelt. Stratton is just 30 minutes from Manchester and all their famous outlet shopping.


Stratton Ski Resort has 92 trails with a 2,003 foot vertical drop over a combined 600 acres. The longest run is 1.2 miles. Sixteen lifts take you to the top of the runs. These include 4 high speed six passenger lifts and a 12 passenger gondola. They also have 3 magic carpets, 3 quads, 1 surface lift, 1 triple and 1 double. The lifts will take 33,528 people per hour to their skiing destinations.


The runs at Stratton are 42% beginner, 31% intermediate, 17% advanced and 10% expert. Snowmaking equipment covers the majority of the runs helping out the yearly average of 180 inches of snow.


The six terrain parks at Stratton Ski Resort are popular with boarders near and far. The U.S. Open Snowboard Championships makes an annual appearance here. The Stratton Mountain Training Center has programs for adults and juniors who are serious about taking their boarding to the next level. Stratton is also home to one of the best halfpipes in the states, and a 420 foot long superpipe.

Old Smoothie is a park with rails, hips, boxes and jumps and East Byrneside is home of the Boarder Cross Course. Tyrolienne is a small park with small features and Kids Parkway is even smaller with smaller features. Betwixt is a mix of rails, boxes and other jibs. Lower Middlebrook is a full length jib style trail and Supertrail Slopestyle is home of the 500 foot long halfpipe.


At the Stratton Nordic Center you can take off and enjoy 35 km of trails. Instruction and rentals are available as is a special midnight tour.


The two base lodges and the mid-mountain lodge offer all the services needed to keep you equipped and fed while you make the most of the slopes. Your dining needs and pleasures are taken care of by Bentley's, Luna, Mulberry Street Ristorante Italiano, Mulligan's, Partridge in a Pantry Deli, Green Door Pub, The Sushi Bar, Verde, Grizzly's and Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. The mix includes a little bit of everything from fine dining to snacks and drinks.

The ski school at Stratton offers lessons for skiers and boarders of all levels. For kids 4-6 their is the Little Cubs and 7-12 year olds go to the Big Cubs. These are all day instructional programs where your children will be taught to ski by only the best instructors. Day care at the Child Care Center is available for kids 6 weeks and older.


Other activities at the mountain include ice skating, snow shoeing and sleigh rides, the Coca Cola Tubing Park, mini snowmobiles, snowmobile tours and mountain tours. In the Stratton Village Square the Sports Center offers tennis, racquetball, a Jacuzzi, steam rooms and a complete fitness center.


Don't let lack of snow keep you from visiting Stratton Mountain Resort, in the summer months there is as much going on as in the winter. Some of the many summer activities are gondola rides, paintball, kids camp, golf, fishing, hiking, tennis and plenty of shopping and dining.

Stratton offers a multitude of slopeside lodging including condominiums, lodges and hotels. Choose from the Liftline Lodge, the Inn At Stratton Mountain, Obertal condos, Long Trail House, Vantage Point Villas, Village Watch and Mountain Watch, Crown Point, Landmark, Founders Lodge and Rising Bear.


Other ski resorts within thirty miles of Stratton are Ascutney, Okemo, Magic Mountain, Bromley, Mount Snow and Willard Mountain.
